2019 Digital Advertising Trends

According to the latest data compiled by MAGNA Advertising Forecasts, global advertising revenues grew by a record +7.2% in 2018 to reach a total of $552 billion. Global digital advertising sales grew by a whopping +17% in 2018. MAGNA predicts that digital media ad formats will attract half of the world’s total ad dollars as early as 2019 or 2020. In the United States alone, digital ad sales grew by +16.6% this year to pass the $100 billion milestone (52% of total ad sales).

Here are the three dominant trends we expect for 2019:

1. More pervasive use of data to tailor messaging to consumers based upon time of day, location, previous exposure, weather, traffic, current events, etc.

2. The quality and relevance of ads will continue to improve as will the number of innovative marketing platforms.

3. As always, creativity and content are king – advertisers want to get their messages in front of consumers however they can. In fact Netflix has begun purchasing billboards to advertise their services.
